Don’t make a music video for your first single UNLESS you have already built a fan base , most artists would see this step as an elevation of their content but unless you have a dedicated audience that will see it, there are just too many financial risks to deal with.

Shooting a music video takes organization, money and time , three massive commitments that if you are a starting artist you may not want to sacrifice just for “having a music video”. There are small actions and types of content you can be making when starting off to build your brand and find your type of audience that will engage with your music. This type of content should be making personal and intimate reels and short clips to show your audience what your sound is like in a more vulnerable manner.

There are professionals who have studied the mannerisms of newly starting artists and have assessed their journey through their interactions with their social media and audience. One must be engaging and make every post feel as if it’s intentionally for the listener to make them feel as if there’s a connection there.

There is a 3 Funnel type content strategy that is a very reliable structure to follow in terms of your visual presence on your artistic journey.

Top of funnel content is to create as much exposure and notoriety as possible. This will be your main content clips of you singing live and in more organised formats.

Middle of the funnel content is to create a connection between your music and your fans so that they have a sense of relatability and relationship with you

Bottom of the funnel content is the more personable and unscripted content where you are doing more VLOG style glimpses into who you are as an artist and a person which will give you a more intimate perception to your audience.

Some examples of artists who do this particularly well are Lola Young and Able Heart who have crafted memorable and personable content on their socials which in turn has made a more valued connection with their fans, who make an effort to tune in to every new post and visual.
